Yo! Folks,
First of all. General conference is this weekend and I could not be more excited! I hope you are all as excited as I am that we get to listen to a modern day prophet, Thomas S. Monson, and the Apostles. Many people don't know that there are prophets today and have never even imagined there would be. Luckily, with the knowledge that we have, we know that the prophet is called of God. So watch general conference errybody! It's going to be some profound sheesh. There is a spiritual rest awaiting and I AM STARVING!
Strange experience of the week: Elder Reynolds and I were waiting to catch a bus when this old lady comes by shouting at us, "Shut it down! Shut it down!" Then comes up and starts spraying us with a bottle of Windex... We stood there and had no clue what to do because this woman was clearly not mentally stable. She eventually walked off. It was nuts.
Elder Reynolds was sick last Wednesday and Thursday so we were confined to our apartment. Thursday night, we were about to go mad being crammed in the place all day. We got so bored that we decided to give each other haircuts. Not that we needed haircuts, rather, we needed something to do. So I cut his hair. First haircut I've ever given and it looked fresh to death! Elder Griffiths (my roomie/Zone Leader) thought it looked good so he asked me for one. So I gave him one. Now he is pretty fly for a white guy. I think with a little more practice I can become as good as the hairstylist in the movie The Princess Dairies.
Please, call me Barber Johanson. Mr. Barber Johanson is my
father.
Last night the missionaries played basketball
with the young men in the ward. There are only 5 young men but we got the
leaders to play with us. We had a good game going. It's been since the MTC
since I've played, so I was a lil rusty. At the end, a 16 yr old non member kid
named Raquan challenged me to one on one. I don't know how I did it, but I beat
him. I guess you can cross "Beat an athletic black guy in the Bronx named
Raquan in one on one" off the bucket list.
This last week I have been realizing more and more that miracles occur. We had a member of our stake council come and talk about miracles in our lives. Many people wonder why miracles like Moses parting the Red Sea and stuff like that don't happen today. Well guess what? Miracles DO happen! We often just don't realize they are taking place. There is no such thing as a coincidence. I encourage you all to look for the miracles that occur daily in your life.
Miracle of the week: We met with a girl who has two kids and lives in her mom’s apartment. Her mom hasn't been paying rent, so this wonderful woman who is trying hard to go to college and raise two kids is being evicted. She has been stressed lately. At the same time, the other elders that we teach her with just met an investigator that works with grants and things like that for underprivileged people. We called him and he will be able to help this in incredible girl out financially. Coincidence that we met this woman and found a man that will be able to help her at the same exact time? I think not. Miracle!
Whelp, gotta go to temple today in Manhattan so I should cut it with the chit chat.
Blessed to have y'all in my life.
